I was unable to finish On the Road (I will do so over break), so I decided to include another classic novel that I read this semester. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a children's class but is no less culturally valuable for this. It is an essential for people of all ages. This semester I began to consider teaching elementary music and have taken a new interest in all things related to kids. The idea of improving my knowledge of children's literature excited me.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is about a young boy whose family are socioeconomically disadvantaged and thus unable to afford the chocolate that he loves. But Charlie, with his great attitude and family loyalty, is paid what he deserves when he wins a trip inside of Willie Wonka's factory, a lifetime supply of chocolate, and, eventually, control of the factory itself. I enjoyed this classic and felt that it was a great introduction to children's classics.

Overall, I have enjoyed this project very much! Reading classics has been a great way not only to broaden my literary and cultural understandings but to do something I enjoy doing during busy and stressful times. The hours I spent on this project were time well spent.
