Fall 2018 Service

As with the four past semesters, this fall I am serving as an Admissions Ambassador. Ambassadors volunteer 30+ hours each semester and attend meetings additionally. Volunteer hours include about two hours each week for regular tours, open houses twice a semester, and any special tours that an ambassador may be able to provide for groups or during weekends. Ambassadors also participate in Operation Christmas Child each November. In my first few weeks, I have had the opportunity to provide tours to several excited families.

Giving tours of campus this semester is different from other semesters because the campus itself is different from other semesters. Culp Center renovations require a new route and new explanations. Thankfully, most of these are straightforward. The renovations will present a new challenge when we begin giving tours for open houses, which were usually spearheaded at the Culp Auditorium.

Despite challenges presented by our changing route, I look forward to serving more families and providing a reassuring experience during a difficult transition. Ambassadors are in the unique position of having the ability to make prospective students and their parents feel welcome on campus--or not. It is important to me that these guests feel safe and at home at ETSU. I hope to help make that happen.
