This semester for my honors colloquium project, I decided to improve my guitar skills. As a music major, playing guitar is one of the most useful abilities to have, especially for someone who intends to become a music teacher. I have been singing for a Celtic band and made friends who are great string players, so this has also served as inspiration for my project.
There were many ways in which I knew I could grow as a guitarist, including learning new chords, learning to apply the notes on guitar to the staff, and adopting new strum and picking patterns. I had received some books of traditional Irish music for voice, piano, and guitar for Christmas. One of these contained a list of strum and picking patterns as well as a guide for reading guitar tab. I decided to use these a guide to aid my learning process.
