After a semester of studying, my quest to learn the location of every country in the world along with its capital has come to a close. Originally, I planned to undertake this project in an effort to become a better history student and, later, history teacher. Though a lot has changed since then, my passion for geography and global studies has not. The time I have spent studying geography this semester has made me realize that though I now plan to become a music teacher, global studies will always be relevant.
Just knowing the locations of these faraway places, many of which I had never heard, has given me a sense of how big the world is and yet how small. I now read and hear of some of them and I have a general understanding of them already based on their geographic position. And it made me think: never having heard of an entire country is equivalent to not knowing of an entire population's existence. I would wager that most people around the world know of the United States of America; I feel that it is only right that I know of them, too.
Political geography is a lot to remember, so I will need to continue brushing up on my knowledge whenever possible. I know that this project has changed and improved my perspective of the world and of my own place within it.
