Where Am I Going?

During our last Freshman UHS Collo class of the semester, we focused on goals for the future. I had already been thinking about plans, of course, but it was helpful to be able to slow down and ask myself: Where am I going? I was able to define some goals that are more specific than simply what I want to do for a career.

One of the tasks we were left with at the end of class was to name five goals we would like to accomplish within the next ten years. Here are the goals I set for myself:

1. Graduate from ETSU with a B.A. in History as well as a teaching licensure for both NC and TN

2. Get a job at the high school I attended (I want to return home and our county only has one high school)

3. Visit five other countries

4. Find a husband

5. Get a masters degree

These goals are a mixture of professionally and personally motivated hopes for myself in the coming years.

The next set of goals we laid out for ourselves were smaller ones which we aim to reach this year and which will help us in our efforts to accomplish the long-term dreams we have for ourselves. Mine include:

1. Signing up for a summer abroad trip

2. Looking for volunteering opportunities in local schools

3. Joining the Student Tennessee Education Association

4. Attending social events to meet people who share my values

5. Constantly evaluating and re-evaluating my college academic plan

I look forward to working towards these goals and eventually meeting them.
